Camp #1 Greenbrier River Campground

July 21-24, 2017

Site #23                                   Greenbrier River Campground

Well, we survived our first set up as a couple.  Our learning curve is showing a bit I’m afraid :).  The gravel site was nice and level and had a two level wooden deck with a fire ring and picnic table.  We had a view of the Greenbrier River, marred only slightly by the porta-potty.

Lessons Learned:

  • Something is wacky with our living area TV, the cable worked great in the bedroom.  Hmmmm.  The camp manager suggested we change it from digital to analog.  Our old eyes couldn’t find such a switch and we had plenty outside to do so we decided to let it go.
  • Setting up at 4 p.m. is HOT.
  • Hook up the sewage, keeping the grey tank open but the black closed.
  • We need to work on our sewage-emptying skills.  I’ll spare you the details but, wow.  We’re hoping a Sewer Hose Support will help gravity along.  Stay tuned.
  • My arms are too short to act as paddles while floating in an inner tube.  Joe had to tie me to him, poor fella.  We later learned I do better using the life vest to float.  Also, I can’t swim–like, seriously, I CANNOT swim.  However, I sink very well AND quickly.  Joe must supervise me at all times.
  • The outdoor kitchen burners need to be hooked up before working.  The hose is hidden behind it and snakes UNDER the RV to the propane outlet.

All and all, we had a wonderful time.  Apache adapted well to his new home but must get used to being on a leash again.  He also wasn’t thrilled with the nearby dogs, he wanted to play.  Alderson is adorable, Joe added to his hat collection in a neat boutique.  We got some yummy tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh corn at a local outdoor farmer’s market.

The campground was beautifully kept, I was especially impressed with the bath house!  I heard the owners bought it three years ago and made several improvements.  They have a fine, small campground.  They have inner tubes for rent which they were kind enough to give us for half off since the river was low.  We weren’t able to float DOWN the river but we did float in the river in front of the campground.  The river was dirtier than I expected, huge globs of green algae everywhere but we still had fun.  Life’s not without risk, right?

We would go here again!
