The drive to Devil’s Tower was just a few hours. It started a little stressful with tight construction in downtown Rapid City, SD. Google Maps doesn’t realize we are in an RV and we always risk being on a road not made for us. It’s stressful but part of it, I suppose. Notice the close up shot of Devil’s Tower above–that’s from our Campsite–super cool. The KOA shows the movie, First Encounter of the Third Kind at 7:30p most nights. Can’t wait to watch while surrounded by the landscape in which it was filmed. Neat! I “almost” got the Wyoming pic–some random couple had stopped for a selfie but Joe rambled past as I tried to get the shot–appropriate that it still reads “Yoming”.

The campground is so nice and there is plenty of Wifi and Cellular Service. We had not really wanted to admit to ourselves how much we have come to depend on electronics. How did our parents survive without all this? After a quick and painless set up at our full hook up and level site, we both retreated to our respective devices for a bit. The temps are in the 90’s and relentless. I headed to do much needed laundry. I was hanging there with beautiful views, listening to my Steven King e-book, and finally catching up with the blog when Joe and Apache showed up to help. Let me tell you, folks, I am one lucky woman. This man of mine is my match. Drives me nuts, wants to “coach” me when I know damn well what I’m doing or at least I think I do–lol, but he also puts down his precious ESPN app he hasn’t seen in a week to come help me with laundry. The three of us looked around at the wonder of it all, laughed for a few minutes cause, damn, aren’t we lucky and then talked and played until the laundry was done. When the sun set we downloaded an app called Star Walk and marveled at the stars we can’t usually see. Tucked in early & off to dream land.

Woke before the sun, made some hot tea, and was catching up on email when I looked to my left and got to experience the Wyoming sunrise. What a privilege. It’s cold outside, Joe says, when he took Apache out–prolly upper 40’s. I noticed a bruise on my leg I must’ve gotten at Wolf Camp–appropriate that it marked me, that camp was tough

My sweetheart brought me flowers after a long cycle ride while I worked. Gotta Woo your women, folks. In the hottest part of the day, 4-5pm, we had the great idea to check out Devil’s Tower. We took our time and contemplated at several benches. A bit into the walk, it became a hike, and then we found the halfway point indicating it was 2.3 miles around the base. WTF? We encountered several fellow travelers in similar predicaments and felt better. We both also enjoyed a pee behind a boulder. Don’t judge us, it brings you closer together!!! Improvise, overcome, adapt, sissies!
As we motored down back to camp, thoroughly enjoying the breeze, we noticed movement to our right. Holy cow! It was a field FULL of Prairie Dogs. Wouldn’t have known that had we not seen the sign, “Don’t feed the Prairie Dogs.”. They were chittering and friendly, I suspect many ignored that sign.

Today was a work day. Joe rode far afield in this desolate but beautiful lands looking for places to explore. When he got back, we rode to Sundance for groceries and a look around, don’t blink! Closest Walmart is 50 miles away. We enjoyed supporting local!
On the way back, we stopped at a new bar that opened in August. Lots of great space and possibilities. We did what we could to help out, Joe showed the owner, Barb, how to make a lemon drop, and off we went.
Back to camp to give Apache his sacrifice toy. Folks have wondered how’s he’s doing since the ACL surgery. Seems to be doing well, he favors the leg more than I like but is slowly putting weight on it. Mornings and cold temps are worse, poor fella. We are out of pain pills for him so we just go slow and give lots of love. I think he misses playing rough, he’s a Boxer after all.
