Camp #10 Missoula KOA Site N2, Missoula, Montana

Honestly not sure of the date

We are pushing through Montana & the Rockies so Joe can fly home and be with his family as Jack recovers. Our goal is to get me to my son so Joe will feel better knowing I’m not alone.  Of note today was passing the Continental Divide which we learned about through google.  It happens to be at this altitude which is nothing to sneeze at.  The elevation is all over the map and some of the grades get nerve wracking–Joe is an expert on our vehicle’s breaking system now.

We stopped in Missoula, nice campground but little time to explore.  We kept the camper on the truck to make our exit in the morning a little easier.  First time for us and it went well.

We got hot showers and did some laundry and turned in for the night.  We’re both pretty wiped out.  We got up at 5am, packing up was fairly easy until I tried to put in the slide-outs.  We have two, one on each side.  The one in the kitchen wouldn’t come back in, well technically one side of one slide out wouldn’t come back in.  I had a small breakdown, knowing we couldn’t drive like that and we needed to get Joe home.  I was quietly crying when Joe came around and learned what was going on.  We just stood there looking through each other, are eyes full of all the ramifications.  We tried one last time, nothing…all of a sudden Joe just thrust himself against the slide out and started pushing…hard.  I think he needed the release but it worked!  The slide out went back in and we were on the way again.  We just hoped it would come back out but will have to worry about that tonight.

Last time Joe talked to his momma, she sounded so tired and overwhelmed.  His heart was breaking not being there with her.  So we’ve decided to push all the way to Tacoma, through the rest of Montana and the neck of Idaho, into Washington and to my son.  Google Maps says 7 hours, which is more like 10 with this camper.  Wish us luck!
