Camp #2 Indian Creek RV & Camping Resort Geneva, Ohio Site 241

August 21-25, 2017

Our adventure is underway and what a great place to start!  Joe is a bit worried that this place will spoil me.  He says this is the nicest campground he’s ever seen and he grew up in campgrounds!  Both of Joe’s parents worked for the school system and had every summer off so they would head to their camp in Myrtle Beach.

Our drive up was only slightly traumatizing.  We encountered a wicked rainstorm while in a construction zone with both sides enclosed by concrete walls, eek!  We weathered it with only a few cuss words. We have a full hook up, pull through site and it’s wonderful.  Right behind the beautifully appointed and maintained bath house.  There are two pools, one of which is for adults only.  It’s a huge campground with a fitness center, lots of recreation, a dog park, ponds, even a church!

The little town, Geneva on the Lake, is kitschy and beachy.  It reminds me of 1970’s Myrtle Beach with small shops (this was my favorite), amusement rides, arcades (with old school games) and locally owned cafes.  We ate breakfast at the Sunrise Café which was a real treat–wonderful food and a sarcastic staff and menu–highly recommend it.  I was happy to see a rainbow flag proudly on display, making it another Safe Zone in our fine, inclusive country.  Of course, the town is right on Lake Erie so Joe and I stopped along the shore to retrieve a couple of rocks worn smooth by time.  I understand there is huge motorcycle rally every year.  If we weren’t so concerned about getting out of the north before the cold hits, we would’ve stayed to experience it!

Sunrise Café–so fun!

This campground is only 10 minutes from my brother’s house.  My niece made Jon a PaPaw just one day before we arrived.  Joe and I got to love on little William Thursday evening and enjoyed a cook out with family.  All too soon it was time to pack up and head to our next destination–each stop brings me closer to my own baby boy, Bryant, who lives with his wife in Tacoma, Washington.  Wish us luck!

Quirks & Lessons:

  1. When showering in a bath house, one must wear shower shoes which for me are flip flops.  It is quite the show when a 40 something, klutz attempts to disrobe or dress while balancing on one leg and keeping one’s foot on a shoe and sticking the other leg into pants.  Oh and you’re still damp so said leg doesn’t neatly slide through the material.  That’s my cross fit!
  2. It has occurred to Joe & I that we will spend the next several months picking up every poop Apache produces.  Not sure who is traumatized more–us or him.  He looks at us weird every time we do it.
  3. Sewage is still freaking me out.  We decided not to dump our black tank, choosing to let it sit a few days so the chemicals can do its magic on the solids.  Never dreamed I would type that sentence–gag.  Send good vibes that the sewage dump in Indiana goes well.
  4. Wrestling a 700 pound motorcycle onto & off of a truck bed is a pain in the ass.  Period.
  5. Cleaning and tidying up is essential in a 31 foot camper.  Geez with the pet hair already!
  6. Folks in RV Parks are super helpful.  We’ve already learned so much from experienced campers.

We loved the vintage feel of Geneva on the Lake, too. I think the Sunrise Cafe is where we ate breakfast. As much as you don’t want to admit it, you’re a lot like me, LOL.
    Love ya, sis! Stay safe!
