This campground is a dream come true.  Gosh I hate we have to leave Friday.  Well, we will squeeze what we can out of this town!  The campground is on the West Channel of The Mississippi (every time I write that word I feel the need to sing the rhyme–you know the one!) River AND our site is directly on the river bank.  The whole place is filled with enormous Oak Trees (I think that’s what they are)–we have two on our site.  The sites are huge and the layout is great.  The only negatives are we can’t stay longer (they’re booked for Labor Day Weekend), they don’t have sewer hookup (just a dump station–geez with the poop already) and the bath house is too far away.  When you envision retiring and living on the water somewhere–this is the campground–if only it was in a warmer state.

Now that the “feels” are over let’s talk about that drive.  Holy shite on a cracker!  This time we paid $20 to drive 351 miles, lots of those so bumpy I thought the RV would take flight!  We had to drive 55 miles the whole way and the traffic in Indiana was crazy with all the tractor trailers!  Poor Joe was so tired and tense by the time we arrived.  We accidentally ran a toll and somehow I have to figure out how to pay it online in the next 7 days.  Wonder what would happen if I don’t?  BTW–hesitate on the pics below for a caption.

Somehow on this drive we entered a time portal.  What should’ve taken 6 hours, took 10 hours!  We have no idea why either.  We stay so confused about time nowadays.  Our cell phones are CST while the laptops and car still read EST.  Joe did take an hour long nap.  Every time he eats he gets sleepy–I think we need to draw an A1C. But, seriously, how could it have taken 10 hours??  We had to drive slower and Indiana construction kept us at a stand still or crawling forever.  Whatever the reason, we were almost in tears by the time we arrived.  Just as we were turning on each other, we arrived in paradise!!  Shew…

We played in the town of La Crosse a while before heading to replenish some groceries.  They had a Duluth Trading Company store where I found a cool, floppy hat and some much needed stretchy pants for the long car rides.  Joe found a comic book store and relieved them of a 1983 Jonah Hex.  I got to hear all about 12 year little Joe and his comics, cool memories!  We had lunch at a restaurant that reminded me of my dad, Old Crow, that’s a little sad but it is what it is.  Miss you dad–had one for you!

I  gave up (yet again) on growing out my hair and after behaving like a teenage girl when doing my hair this morning, I decided to cut it off.  Can you believe I went to Walmart??  I’m one of those chix, the kind that think fancy salons are better.  I tried to get in those today but they were all booked–plus I think I scared them with my “camp attire”.  Anyway, Walmart worked out fine and I’m content with the results.  Of course, I can’t see past my nose.

Lessons & Quirks:

  1. Camp attire is something I’m embracing with gusto and don’t you dare judge me for it.  Granted, the ball cap was a bit much for my video meeting this morning BUT, in my defense, the water was out.  I’ll do better guys!  Just know that any time I’m not on video I’m likely wearing sweats, a t-shirt, and flip flops.  Often a bandana cause who needs to shower every day and short hair bed head is something no one needs to see.
  2. I feel like all we talk about or deal with is poop.  lol.  This morning for the first time in his LIFE Apache pooped twice on his morning walk.  I, of course, only had one bag.  Geez louise with the poop!  Also he has the runs.  Did I mention he’s a 73 pound boxer??poop bags

    I love Duluth Trading Company!
I feel your pain on the poop! We just got back from vacation where Kirby had diarrhea so we went through many poop bags. Next time you stop at a grocery, pick up some pumpkin purée (in the cake/sugar or canned vegetable aisle). A spoonful once or twice a day will help the diarrhea. It’s sweet so Apache will love it.
    Love ya sis!
