Apache at the vet in Coos Bay. Yep, so there’s that. We kept noticing he was holding his leg up. The day before this pic, he seemed actually in pain. So we took him to a local vet who told us what we already knew….his ACL surgery failed and he’s gonna need another. Although this vet CAN do the surgery, he suggested we see one who is board certified since it’s a repair. They sent us packing with an NSAID, pain medicine, and the name of a good doctor in Medford, Oregon.
We called that doctor and learned they have a waiting list of several weeks just for a consultation. So I guess we will continue the search as we continue our journey.
Don’t worry, though. Apache is still having a blast. He has developed an obsession for beach rocks. We’re just hoping that won’t transfer to our backyard when we get home.
On our way to the vet, we ran into this little fella. We assumed he was sick as he slowly meandered down the street, seemingly unconcerned with people and cars nearby. The vet, however, told me they are very common in town and have lost their fear since shooting a gun inside city limits is illegal. Interesting.
Oregon has a robust Logging industry. Nearby Bandon has a whole waterfront of beautiful benches, each dedicated to a citizen who contributed to the community. The one below is made from the same tree, slices positioned opposite each other. The aforementioned flagger let us know of a state law requiring eight trees be planted for every two cut down. Did I mention the West Coast might be the BEST Coast?
Did it not rain 8-9 months a year here, Joe and I would be calling our realtor to put our house on the market. Oregon has mild temps. all winter, rarely freezing or getting below the 40a. Alas, it averages over 60 inches every “rainy season” (according to locals) which begins in November and ends in May or June. I wrestle with depressive episodes so not sure this is the permanent palce for us. BUT WE SURE AS HELL CAN VISIT! We also are learning about mushrooms, this climate is ideal for many varieties of shrooms so we got us handbook and are all about our learnin’.
The last pic above is Oregon’s largest dreamcatcher. Gotta love hippies! Fayetteville, WV—you got some hippies but oh my goodness Oregon is MADE of hippies. Our tribe is calling and we must answer.
As we say goodbye to Coos Bay, Oregon we remember the nightly beach fires and beautiful sunsets. Gonna hurt to leave tomorrow. Brookings, Oregon is next. Gotta squeeze in ONE more Oregon coast camp before we head to California!
